Cobalt - All Books Tell Tales

It's been several posts, thus quite a large amount of time since I've talked about The Band. Back then we were struggling with finding the right name for our four-piece band, so now I'm really proud to announce our new bandname: Cobalt. It's exclusive, really, so consider yourselves lucky to be the firsts to hear about The Best Band In The World.

Also, we're recording a demo. Like with everything we do, it takes ages to finish it. We've set up several deadlines so it wouldn't take months for us to realize it, and it's still not ready yet. But let's stay positive: we're almost there! We're halfway through recording the vocals. Once that's done, we can start mixing the songs.

I can't wait to share our music with you, but since not a single song is fully recorded yet I simply can't. Here's a little teaser of our song 'All Books Tell Tales', though. Which is, of course, a working title.

It's pooping bird time! Apart from being in a band (aka the best band in the world with no name thus far) I also promote music. Pooping bird is a small organisation with a big heart for decent music. We're a three piece from Antwerp, with a diverse taste in music. I will not longer bother you with boring details on how we got together and how we nearly set a venue on fire once, so let's skip to the part where I tell you about next sunday.

Refused Party Program is a temporary tribute to one of the best records ever made: 'The Shape Of Punk To Come' by the Swedish band Refused. After that, they'll be fucking dead.

RÄPE BLOSSOMS

Noise punk from Ghent. Their first album 'Starving Vultures At 7-Eleven' was released on Vlas Vegas Records. Are live way cooler than you!

London 3 Piece Nitkowski blend the heavier side of math rock with hardcore and avant garde influences to produce a dark, compelling body of work. Nitkowski sound like the bastard offspring of Don Caballero and Botch with a nod to The Fall along the way.

CALICIFER

Antwerp thrash kill band. We're no fans of comparisons, but think of the lovechild of PJ Harvey, QOTSA and other thrashy stuff.

Alela Diane

A week ago, I found myself in a music centre called Trix. I was invited to a Alela Diane show and was really pleased to check out her music for free. Of course, I've had heard of her before, but to be honest, her music never really seemed to stick with me.
Until last monday. There she was, this beautiful lady, not knowing how to behave after no one reacted on her (what meant to be) funny opening line. Shy but brave she laughed it away and went on to the first song of her set.

Was it her voice? Or the way she tried to act all confident when you could still see her trembling from anxiety? Whatever it was, it felt like she put a spell on me. From the first song to the last, I was like a deer in the headlights, only being able to focus on every note they played.

Admitted, bringing her band ‘The Wild Divine’ was the best thing she could do to be able to keep one song apart from the other, but for a couple of songs she sent her husband (the guitarist), the bassplayer and the drummer backstage to play some intimate ones with her dad.

This was a pure concert without any qualms, it was passionate in an intimate way. She didn’t convince me to immediately buy all of her records though, but she certainly made me play her best known album ‘The Pirate’s Gospel’ over and over again.

Buck Antlers?

I’m in a band. The most awesome band in the world, really. Apart from the (old) Kings Of Leon, that is. We’re on the verge of breaking through if it wasn’t for one problem: we don’t have a bandname. We do, actually, but that’s just a working title: Buck Antlers. Since the sudden rise of a lot of bands called anything with ‘buck’ or ‘antlers’, we’ve decided to drop the name and come up with a better one. 

Every day we’re making lists with new ideas, but nothing’s ever good enough. Either the name is too long - or too short, or they’re just words put behind each other without an actual meaning. Sometimes three out of four members love it but the fourth member hates it so much he/she would quit the band if they went through with it. So no name. Yet. 

The good thing is that we’ve finally found a bassplayer. His name is Tim and he doesn’t like the music we’re listening to. Or at least not all of it. But that’s no biggie because he’s the one that suits us best. We’ve had some bassplayers pass by the last couple of years and most of the time we just didn’t match. Ever since Tim is in the band, we’ve found a new kind of energy to accomplish stuff. Hell, we’re even planning on recording a demo at the end of this month. And I can feel it in my veins: it’s gonna be a hit!

Chloë and the Lonesome Cowboy

Yesterday my best friend and her cute boyfriend won Cutting Edge's Talent Of The Year award! I'm so proud of them!

Time for a little introduction: Chloë and the Lonesome Cowboy is an indie & alternative pop duo that was formed in the summer of 2008, after an inspiring trip to London. When they got back, they started working really hard: Chloë learned to play the guitar and some keys, and Bram even bought himself a drumkit!

At the time any other band would spend their energy in looking for a 'good' place to rehearse, Chloë and the Lonesome Cowboy had their first demo songs up on the (back then) almighty MySpace. From that point on, the ball just started rollin'.
I remember their first shows, vulnurable as they were - the fragile voice of Chloë mixed with the raging punches of Bram hitting his kit, not quite knowing what to do behind a drumset - but from the first show on the beauty and power of their songs started to fill the room and shut the audience up from the beginning to the end of their performance.
Needless to say, they only got better and better and look at them now, quietly but steady conquering the world!

In the meantime the duo is proud to announce their debut 'Right At The Sun' and I really recommend you to give it a listen. Tons of praising reviews second that. To order, just send them a mail, it's only € 10!

Little Trouble Kids

Since I had to do a presentation for school on a promising Belgian band (I love my school!), I thought I might share it on this blog aswell. Here goes:

Boston Tea Party is a noise pop duo existing of the two love birds Thomas and Eline. They make the most exiting and crazy songs you've ever heard, and this only with an acoustic guitar in overdrive, their mere voices and a home-made stompbox (powered by a pair of flamenco shoes on speed). Fan and close friend Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire, The Eagles Of Death Metal, Broken Glass Heroes) dragged them to the Vantage Point Studio (dEUS) to record their debut 'Little Trouble Kids'. All eleven songs were recorded in one take, with some wacko overdubs, and respecting the diy-character of the music. Result: a sequence of songs with a dirty sound, wild guitarparts and heavy feet stumps.

Sadly, due to a copyright infringement, Boston Tea Party had to change their name. To keep the transition smooth, they decided to go for the debut's title, Little Trouble Kids. With a cute little promo film, they let the world now that "boston Tea Party is dead, long live Little Trouble Kids!"
